What To Drink

Go to any health site or read any healthy blog/article and one of the first tips to lose weight is drink more water.  It’s good advice because you’re pretty much almost all water.  Water literally powers most of your bodily functions and you’re constantly losing water by sweating and even exhaling.  But I’m going to say what you should never say about water:

It’s boring and I just don’t like it. What To Drink | Life Healthfully Lived

I know it’s the ultimate “diet” drink because it has no calories.  And I know it’s super important to drink enough water because dehydration is not fun. And on a hot day, I do enjoy a cold glass of water.  BUT no matter how many times I try to drink more water, I feel like I’m forcing myself to do something and that’s never good.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I drink water and I’m not saying you should stop just because you don’t like it.  But you can stay fully hydrated and functioning without drowning yourself in plain water or turning to expensive and processed drink products.  These are just a few drinks I add to my day to get more H2O in me but still enjoy life:

Coconut Milk– I use this in A LOT of my cooking.  Almost all of it and it’s one of the easiest dairy-free milks to make at home.

Golden Milk– Turmeric is a powerhouse spice and I like winding down at the end of the night with a mug of this.

Lemon-Ginger Tea– This is my go-to drink because it’s plain water in a fancy dress.  The little bit of flavor lemon and ginger give water makes it SO much easier to drink.

Almond Milk– For the longest time I bought almond milk because every batch I made tasted like dirty water.  Finally, numerous attempts led to one of my favorite dairy-free drinks to have on hand.

Caramel Coconut Cashew Milk– You can get fancy with your drinks too!  This one is more of a treat than a regular hydrating drink, but it’s fun to mix things up.

Chocolate Macadamia Milk– You know the kid in you wants chocolate milk.  I won’t tell if you blow bubbles in it with your straw.

Watermelon Soda– This recipe pretty much works with any fruit and it’s a lifesaver in the summer months.

Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa– Ok, this is another treat drink but come on, I couldn’t forget hot chocolate! Plus, chocolate is an antioxidant so it has that going for it!

You can also up your water intake by eating food that is mostly made of water.  Fruit like watermelon, strawberries, grapefruit, and cantaloupe as well as vegetables like cucumbers, zucchini, lettuce, celery, and tomatoes are all full of water.  Brothy soups and smoothies are also good ways to up your water intake.

The point is, you don’t have to force yourself to gag down plain water if it’s just not your thing.  There are plenty of delicious ways to hydrate!
